Abstract:

The light beam from a ruby laser is shined on a crystal and the output light from the crystal is examined by a monochromator. It is found that at temperatures near the Curie point, approximately 47 C, the harmonic component of radiation from triglycine sulphate disappears. Furthermore, the harmonic generation is a continuous function of temperature. In addition, the amount of second harmonic radiation from a triglycine sulphate crystal depends on the temperature history of the crystal. This effect is similiar to the well known thermal hysteresis effect normally observed in ferroelectric crystals such as triglycine sulphate. Author
