Five pressure vessels were assembled and tested to failure. They were fabricated of three nominal thicknesses of material, 0.025-, 0.040-, and 0.064-in.-thick maraging steel, An analysis of the results of these tests indicated the feasibility of the lightweight laminated pressure vessels of lap-joint design and showed the difficulty of demonstrating a reproducible confidence level with reusable header closures that had sustained some deformation during hydrostatic tests to high-energy levels.
