Abstract:

A brief discussion of sound signaling by cetaceans and its possible use in the capture of these ani mals and in underwater sound transmission is followed by considerations of the relationship of the hydrophobic and antiturbulent properties of the skin surface to swimming speed. It is suggested that some of the features of cetacean streamlining E. G., the pad of fat on the head could be incorporated into ship hull design. Author
