Abstract:

Experimental investigations using a vacuum ultra violet monochromator showed that a substantial degree of linear polarization of Lyman-alpha radiation 1216 ang0 can be produced by successive reflections at the Brewster angle approx. 60 degrees from cleaved surfaces of lithium fluoride. Two successive reflections gave a ratio of intensities in the plane of incidence and perpendicular to the plane on the order of 110, as determined by a third LiF surface as analyzer, with a transmission on the order of 10 for two reflections.
