The properties of vacuum and gas diodes are discussed. The equations describing the properties of these two types of diodes are compared for the situation in which the diode current is space-charge limited. The screen anode of an auxiliary discharge is used as the cathode of the gas diode and the properties of this type of cathode are studied and the experimental results reported.
