Abstract:

An IBM 7090 program automatically corrects garbled samples of English text. The garbles are intended to resemble those caused by Morse Code transmissions. The program has access to a vocabulary and a table of the Morse Code equiva lents of the English alphabet. The correction rate on text in which 0-10 of the characters have been subjected to Morse Code garbles is about 70. The apparent improvement in intel ligibility is very marked. Author
