The close-in electromagnetic fields produced by deflection in the earths field of Compton electrons from a nuclear explosion are analyzed. Maxwells equations in spherical coordinates are solved by an expansion in the perturbation fields, taking into account the space and time dependence of the conductivity and Compton cur rent. The field structure is determined, and it is shown that the peak change in field is only 10 per cent.
