Abstract:

Students at the Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare School were tested on their ability to make target axis angle difference judgements utilizing the angles at the boundaries of the Navy Electronics Laboratory category system as standard stimuli. It was found that about 50 of the judgements were corrected at about 4 to 5 degrees. In comparison to absolute angular categorization, the inclusion of a standard comparison stimulus considerably increased accuracy.
