Abstract:

The report states that an important aspect of any system is its reliability, or its probability of successful operation. The report also states that such a probability R, is never known exactly in practice but may only be approximated by an estimate R, based on either a subjective probability analysis or on an analysis of actual failure history of the system. The report states that if the estimate R is based on failure history, its accuracy can be precisely quantified in the form of conference this paper is concerned with such quantification under various assumptions regarding the failure law including the case of no assumption.
