Abstract:

Time histories of representative maneuvering flight were used to compute the power spectral densities of pertinent aircraft motions. Peak distributions were also examined. The analysis has shown that the mission and the type of air craft are the two most important factors which influence the probability of occurrence of peak motions. The spectral analysis has shown that the predominant frequencies present in maneuver motions, and which appear to be closely related to peaks in the time histories, are not necessarily the natural frequencies of rigid air frame response such as Dutch roll and short period. A statistical model representative of maneuvering motion time histories is briefly described.
