Gravimeters with heavy damping for use at sea are examined in this paper as regards the sequence of processing for the observations an attempt is made to elucidate and estimate the various errors. The estimates are based on laboratory tests made in submarines. It was found that GAL gravimeters are of adequate accuracy for use in submarines. A set of five to eight GAL gravime ters enables one to cover a range of variation from 1500 to 2000 mgal without return to the initial point for three or four months. The contribution to the total error from the instru mental error under these conditions will not exceed 2 to 3 mgal for the weakest point.
