Abstract:

Several inorganic salts of N,N,N-trinitroethylene- diamine were prepared and characterized. These salts exhibit improved thermal properties over previously reported dinitroamines, showing decomposition to about 130 C. However, the salts were either deliquescent or contained difficult-to-remove impurities. Attempts to prepare organic salts of N,N,N-trinitroethylene- diamine were unsuccessful. Attempts to prepare the aromatic dinitroamines, N,N,3,5-tetranitroaniline, N,N-dinitropentafluoro- aniline and N,N-dinitro- 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro- aniline, were unsuccessful. A new type of oxygen oxidizer, 1,4-dihydro-1-nitro-4-nitriminopyridine, was prepared and characterized. The material forms a nonhygroscopic perchlorate salt, 1-nitro-4-nitraminopyridinium perchlorate. An analogous series of reactions was used to prepare 1,4-dihydro-1,3-dinitro-4-nitriminopyridine and 1,3-dintro-4-nitraminopyridinium perchlorate. However, attempts to prepare 1,4-dihydro-1,3,5-trinitro-4-nitriminopyridine were unsuccessful. It was shown that beta-nitraza primary nitramines could be prepared by the acid hydrolysis of the corresponding beta-nitraza N-nitro-t-butylcarbamate. However, treatment of one beta-nitraza primary nitramine, 2-nitrazapropylnitramine, with nitronium tetrafluoroborate did not give the corresponding dinitroamine.
