Abstract:

The following methods were used to dry and produce argon fluorides 1 electric discharge in gaseous state, 2 electric spark discharge in liquid state and 3 ultraviolet irradiation in liquid phase. At present the latter two methods look promising. The results obtained are presented and the possibility of Ar.5-34 H2O formation is discussed. KrF2 was prepared by exposing a mixture of the Kr F2 to sunlight at room temperature while trapping the product at 195 K. This technique will be tried in preparing ArF2. Preliminary results indicate that salts of xenic acid and kryptic acid may have been synthesized directly from the elements by subjecting the rare gas and oxygen to the electric discharge in the presence of alkali at 195 K. and 90 K. respectively.
