Abstract:

Three TE-385 solid-propellant rocket motors were successfully tested at pressure altitudes in ex cess of 117,000 ft to determine motor ignition characteristics and ballistic performance. The vacuum corrected total impulse ranged from 14,190 to 14,200 lbf-sec. The average vacuum specific impulse, based on the manufacturers stated pro pellant weight, was 256.3 lbf-seclbm. The maximum deviation from this average was 0.08 percent. Ignition characteristics are presented for motors ignited by both one and two pyrogen igniters. Author
