Abstract:

A Laser design concepts study is described. The Laser design is to produce 0.1 microsec pulses of 1000 to 10,000 joules with an angular spread between 11000 to 110,000 radians. For laboratory experimentation, the Laser output energy is to be delivered onto a 1 sq cm target at a convenient distance. The study showed that maximum output power will be dependent on actual dielectric breakdown values of Laser materials at optical frequencies. The best solution to higher output power likely will be to increase the effective volume of the Laser material in the final amplifier stage. Author
