An analysis was made of theory, methods, techniques, and design concepts to improve the power and energy capability of laser devices as required to achieve a laboratory model laser radiation weapon with an output of 1000 to 10,000 joules in 10 nanosec. Based on these design concepts several configurations for achieving the laboratory model laser radiation weapon are evaluated. These configurations range from one which is most easily realizable from the present state of the art and is least easily scaled upward to one that employs a number of innovations but is easily scaled upward in energy toward a field weapon with an output energy of 0.01 gigajoules.
