Abstract:

The detection of a wake is usually very difficult because of its small amplitude, and because of the natural waves which are usually present. It is shown that the three dimensional spectra of the wake and of the natural waves are of different forms, and that this difference might be used to design a filter to enhance the wake and attenuate the natural waves. Some of the practical limitations on such a filter are also discussed.
