Abstract:

A study was made of the effects of elevated temperatures and pressures exceeding the saturation pressure of water on compounds of some elements known to be present as contaminants on the water side of naval boilers. These compounds were, specifically, the gelatinous precipitates which are produced when sodium phosphate solutions react with solutions of the chlorides of iron, copper, calcium, and magnesium, as well as certain oxides of iron which are the principal components of rust.
