Abstract:
Using hydrophobed 1.0 denier Acrilan staple fibers processed into needled battings, it was determined that ballistic effectiveness decreased with an increase in the amount of needling. From a limited investigation, it appears that the ballistic performance of a needled felt increases with an increase in areal density up to a certain value, above which additional weight per square yard does not result in any significant improve ent. A needled batt, 50 ozsq. yd., containing 6 denier Nylon tirecord fibers was found to be equal, approximately, in ballistic efficiency to a 16 ozsq. yd. needled batt of 1 denier Acrilan. Author
