The reactivity of the vegetative neural system in conditions of oxygen starvation arouses great interest. A number of researchers have explained that in hypoxemic hypoxia the bodys sensitivity to adrenaline is substantially lowered. The weakening of the sympathetic nerves in conditions of hypoxia explains this. In experiments onANIMALS AND IN OBSERVATIONS OF PEOPLE IT HAS BEEN SHOWN THAT HYPOXIA LEADS TO A PROGRESSIVE INCREASE IN THE BODYS SENSITIVITY TO ACETYLCHOLINE, THIS INCREASE BEING NOTICEABLE IN BOTH THE INTACT VAGUS NERVES AND IN THEIR CROSSSECTION.
