Abstract:

Studies of hepatic lipogenesis to rats that have lived in the cold successfully for several months -cold-adapted rats are presented. Liver slices from these cold-adapted rats also showed depressed lipogenesis, but the surprising finding is that this reduction in fatty acid synthesis is not the result of a curtailed hepatic carbohydrate metabolism. Two aspects of hepatic acetate metabolism were studied under these conditions oxidation of acetate-1-C14 to C14O2 and incorporation of acetate-1-C14 into long chain fatty acids. Author
