Abstract:

The ability of hepatic tissue to oxidize acetate is greatly affected by the carbohydrate content and extent of carbohydrate metabolism in the liver is described. A detailed study of the relationship between hepatic carbohydrate content and acetate oxidation was therefore undertaken. In the present investigation the carbohydrate content of the liver was drastically reduced by fasting rats both at 25 C. and 0 C. Acetate oxidation is greatly depressed by the lowering of the hepatic carbohydrate level. Author
