A study of reactive energy and Q associated with antennas is presented. For an aperture in a conducting screen expressions for radiated power, stored reactive energy and Q are given. A theorem on the frequency sensitivity of the aperture susceptance is presented. Also a method of optimizing the aperture field is given. A general method of evaluating antenna Q is developed and explicit results for the Q of spherical cylindrical modes obtained. Author
