Abstract:

The nature of the vibro-arc surfacing method is described. The head for automatic surfacing is mounted on lateral slides of the support instead of the tool holder. During the process of surfacing the detail revolves at a rate which is fixed within limits of from 0.5 to 15 rpms, depending upon the diameter of the surfaced detail, rate of wire melting, and thickness of built up layer. The head has a special mechanism for feeding the wire. A liquid protects the surfacing zone from atmospheric oxygen and nitrogen and cools the beaded detail. By the vibration of the wire it is possible to reduce the harmful effect of the liquid on the stability of arc burning process. Author
