Abstract:

A technique for bonding steels and high temperature alloys with a ceramic adhesive-brazingALLOY COMBINATION WAS DEVELOPED AND EVALUATED. The process was evaluated for bonding three steels PH 15-7 Mo, 17-7 PH and AM 350 and two high te perature alloys Rene 41 nickel alloy and HS-25 cobalt alloy. The bonding processes were optimized for the various metals. The variables that were investigated included surface treatments methods of applying ceramic form of the brazing alloy firing temperatures, time and pressure ambient atmospheres. Lap joint and honeycomb sandwich specimens were bonded by the optimized rocedures and serviceability properties were determined by standard test methods. Test temperatures were as high as 1000 F for the steel joints and 1600 F for the nickel and cobalt alloy joints. Among the other tests that were run were creep-rupture fatigue, bend and 192 hour heat soaks.
