Abstract:

I ENTIFIERS Circular orbit trajectories, Communication atellites 9passive.Analytical solutions for the short time motion of a ball on type satellite di placed from a circular orbit by the perturbing force of Earth oblateness air drag, and solar radiation pressure were obtained. The basic approach followed is that due to Geyling, and involves reference of the perturbed otion to a coordinate system moving with t e nominal position of the satellite in unperturbed circular otion. In this coordinate system, the equati ns of the perturbed motion are linear, with constant coefficients. The form of the solution allows the effects of the widely varying estimates of satellite drag neutral air, Coulomb charged body, induction, and plasma wave - to be rea ily evaluated. The equations for the general case of the displacements from an elliptical orbit are s own to be reducible to a simple form which permits a series solution in powers of eccentricity. Algebraic equations for line-o - ight tracking of a satellite from any geodetic station were developed from the solutions of the perturbed motion. For rea y evaluation of particular problems, t e solutions were programmed for a Burroug s 205 co puter. A brief discussion of the program is included in this report. Author
