Abstract:

Studies were concerned with the problem of specifying the distribution of excited ions and molecules formed in gas phase radiation chemical systems. The principle emphasis was placed on developing and improving a satisfactory theory of the unimolecular reactions of excited polyatomic molecule-ions establishing the validity of the theory by comparing calculated results with published experimental data and extending the theory for application to radiation chemistry. Consideration was also given to the problem of specifying the electron energy distribution producing the excitation and ionization in an irradiated gas phase system. Theoretical results are presented for propane, n-butane, and iso-butane. Author
