Abstract:

Mobile photographic laboratories, used by the Dept. of the Army, employ stabilization processing as a means of eliminating the conventional washing procedure. The rapid processing system currently employed uses an Amidol developer,A SODIUM BISULFITE STOP BATH, AND A THIOUREA STABILIZATION BATH. Difficulties in developer procurement and satisfactory shelf life of the developer are serious defects in the system. AFD-25, acetic acid, and thiourea, used at a processing temperature of 100 F, were investigated as a replacement. Experimental data and results obtained during actual operating conditions are described and evaluated. S bstitution of the AFD-25 system eliminates the previous difficulties and improves the stabilization process. Author
