Abstract:

Theories supporting various methods of measuring the more important characteristics of a plasma are surveyed. It is not to be implied that all possible methods are covered. Microwave cavity, optical radiation, Stark broadening, and other methods are omitted. Single and double probe, dipole resonance, and visible interferometric measure ents are described. It is concluded that as techniques become more refined the direction plasma diagnostics takes will be toward the more passive type optical measurements. Author
