Abstract:

The Kirkwood-Brinkley shock propagation theory is used to obtain peak pressure-distance curves for Pentolite and TNT. The curve for Pentolite obtained by using the calculated initial pressure and flow energy at the charge surface as initial values is in excellent agreement with experiment for distances greater than 1.75 charge radii. The curve for TNT obtained by using some approximate values of the peak pressure and energy at the charge surface is in excellent agreement with some recent free-air blast measurements. The curve is also compared with Brodes calculated pressure-distance curve.
