Abstract:
Field take-off tests for the AD-5W airplane with an R3350-26WD engine were conducted to obtain take-off performance with the current take-off engine configuration of 2900 RPM, 28 degrees BTC ignition timing, and 2700 Brake Horsepower BHP and a proposed engine configuration of 2800 RPM, 24 degrees BTC ignition timing, and 2700 BHP. All tests were conducted with a modified ManifoldAbsolute Pressure MAP limit of 57 in. Hg since the test airplane would not develop 2700 BHP at the current standard day MAP limit of 55 in. Hg. Take-off distances are unchanged by the use of the proposed engine configuration. Engine operation with the proposed engine configuration is satisfactory for take-off. Take-off distance data presented in the Flight Handbook can be obtained with either engine configuration however, the take-off indicated airspeed required to obtain this distance is lower than that presented.
