The commercial feasibility of producing titanium sheet product from two new alpha type alloys, Ti-7Al-12Zr and Ti-5Al-5Zr-5Sn was investigated. Laboratory size ingots, 200 pounds, were double vacuum melted and converted to sheet product for both analyses. Optimum finish hot rolling temperatures were determined as 1750 F for both alloy types. Processing and testing of the sheet product produced showed that the Ti-7Al12Zr composition develops metallurgical instability as evidenced by bend properties and tensile ductility. This condition was not evident for the Ti-5Al-5Zr-5Sn alloy. Author
