A simple technique for melting and casting magnesium-lithium alloys is described. After melting in an argon atmosphere without flux, the molten metal is poured into a mold made of steel, machined graphite, or rammed graphite, or rammed graphite. Two pouring methods may be used, depending upon the size and shape of the ingot or casting.
