Abstract:

Homonuclear diatomic molecules are classified according to the ratio alpha heat of vaporization of an atomdissociation energy of the diatomic molecule. For transition elements the heat of vaporization of an atom can be represented by a-b e, where e is the excitation energy of the free atom to a set of electronic levels a and b are empirical parameters. Experimental conditions for observing unknown homonuclear diatomic molecules of transition elements are estimated for alpha 2 and 5, using a calculated self-consistent set of free energy functions.
