ATB 3-142 Unclassified report DESCRIPTORS Mortars, Self-propelled guns, Arctic regions, Tests, Armored vehicles, Tracked vehicles. Identifiers 4.2 inch mortar, M106 mortar, 81 mm, T257 mortar. Tests were conducted 1 to determine if the infantry, self-propelled, 4.2-inch, XM106 mortar, is suitable for Army use under arctic winter conditions, and 2 to determine the effect of the increased weight of the mortar on the mobility of the vehicle in arctic terrain. It was concluded that a the mortar should be su table for such Army use when the deficiencies are corrected, and b the increased weight of the mortar had no significant effect on the mobility of the vehicle in arctic terrain.
