Abstract:
The dependence of the electrical conductivity of sulfur upon pressure is used to measure a pressure-time profile for detonating Baratol. The measurements indicate an initial pressure spike and tend to further confirm the hydrodynamic theory of detonation proposed by von Neumann. Preparation of sulfur gauges, method of calibration and preliminary performance tests are described.
