A test program was conducted on alumina foam and zirconia foam to determine the possibility of using these materials as insulating panels for high temperature applications. The test temperatures in this program were limited to 3500 F. The mechanical properties determined were crushing strength at room temperature and modulus of rupture at room temperature, at 1500, and 2500 F. Thermal tests conducted were thermal conductivity and thermal exposure. The alumina foam had a nominal density of 37 lbcu ft and the zirconia foam of 45 lbcu ft.
