Abstract:

The effects are analyzed of two internally compatible and two internally incompatible displaycontrol systems upon operator performance during target-acquisition and target-tracking tasks using three dimensions of information presented on a two-dimensional display surface. Four groups of 10 subjects each were used. Each subject performed two tasks 1 acquiring lock-on to the target, and 2 tracking a moving target in azimuth, range, and elevation. During Task I two measures were recorded 1 time to acquire lock-on, and 2 composite initial reversals. During Task II lock-on time and length of time of coincidence in each of the three dimensions of azimuth, range, and elevation were measured. Various statistical analyses were carried out on the data obtained from these measures. Conclusions based on these analyses are presented. Author
