Abstract:

Flight tests show that aerial recovery by helicopter has many operational and technical advantages which may supplement recovery by conventional aircraft. Although both systems operate on the same principles, the helicopter system is simpler, more economical, and has great reli-ABILITY. Tested recovery weights increased from 50 to 800 lbs. and an effective, reliable parachute system was developed. With continuing development, helicopters with higher load carrying capabilities can be used for aerial recovery of weights in the 2-ton region. Author
