Abstract:
A technical and economic feasibility study was made in order to investigate the use of radioisotopic power as an energy source for remote area heating. Consideration was given to units for a rated output of 50,000 and 300,000 Btuhr. Designs are presented for a number of feasible systems. The economic study revealed that a Nuclide Heat unit can compete with conventional heaters in remote locations where conventional fuel logistics add measurably to the over-all heating costs and where long life-time, highlyreliable units are required.
