Abstract:

Research during the work period continued to deal with progress on the problem of anodic polarization is reported. The oxidation of methanol, formaldehyde, formic acid and methyl formate proceeded at comparable anodic polarization in H2SO4 on Pt black at room temperature, whereas dimethyl sulfate could not be oxidized. At elevated temperatures to 90 C, the polarization of the anodic oxidation of methanol, formaldehyde and formic acid decreased with Pt as catalyst and H2SO4 as electrolyte. PtO2 was catalytically active only upon reduction to a lower state of oxidation both for cathodic oxygen conversion and as fuel anode. Author
