Abstract:

Improved gas generators are being studied to activate zinc-silver oxide batteries employing the Signal Corps metal-tube electrolyte-reservoir activating system. A propellant investigation, text fixture evaluation tests, and pressure-vs-time testing of two propellant formulations were studied. Propellant evaluations are being conducted to determine whether or not the thermal stability of the two commercially available propellants will equal or surpass propellant N-1825. The sealed match has proven effective for igniting the gas generators under various temperature conditions including 300 deg F for 168 hours. The redesigned test fixture has proved satisfactory.
