Abstract:

Following the development in previous studies of a generalized concept of the manufacturing process, and its classification according to form of energy, mode of energy transfer, environment, and process topology, results of parallel studies within the framework of these process elements are reported. These studies have been of two kinds 1 broad studies of entire categories, such as material addition by solid state bonding and 2 feasibility studies of promising effects, such as increasing the ductility of certain brittle materials under the influence of electric fields. A table of criteria for the evaluation of processes has been developed and six established and candidate processes have been entered. Author
