Abstract:

The polar cap absorption of July 12 has been classed as an SC-max event, showing maximum absorption after the SC associated with the cosmic ray flare. The PCA of July 18 belongs to the class of pre-SC-max events, with the maximum absorption attained well before the associated SC storm. Recently available data from the satellite Injun I shows that the characteristics of the two events are in agreement with the magnitudes of the flux of protons below 15 Mev relative to the total flux above 40 Mev the July 12 PCA was a low energy event, that of July 18 a high energy event.
