Abstract:

An attempt was made to measure the rate of change of superconducting transition temperature T sub c, as a function of surface charge density, sigma, in Sn films. For films having thicknesses of 190,670 and 1460 angstroms, dT sub cd sigma was found in all cases to be less than 30 degree sq cmcoulomb, the limit of sensitivity of the present apparatus. This negative result was compared with Glover and Sherrills Phys. Rev. 5248, 1960 finding that in a Sn film 70 angstroms thick dT sub cd sigma equals -460 degree sq cmcoulomb. Author
