Studies were made to d termine the weldability of low C below .20 steel H-plates without preheat and wit lo 100 F in erpass tempera ures. The H-plates were made of 12-, 1- and 1-12 in.-thick material. Plates of 12- and 1-in. thickness were welded without difficulty. Difficulty due to cracking was encountered with som of the 1-12-in.-thick plates. Six plates of each thicknes were welded and met satisfactory radiographic standards. H-pl tes of his material in the 12- and 1-i . thickness were successfully welded with low interpass temp r ure d i out t e use of preheat.
