Abstract:

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the retinal irradiance and retinal image size obtainable when rabbit and human eyes are exposed to the Zeiss light coagulator and to determine the feasibility of this laboratory source for research on retinal burns. The maximum retinal irradiance with the Zeiss light coagulator is 120 calsq cm sec and 41 calsq cm sec on the fundus of rabbit and human eyes with maximum image diameters of 1.00 and 1.70 mm, respectively these values were calculated from experimental data using a lens substitution method.
