Abstract:
F compounds possessing N-N double bonds decomposed generally to give N and free radicals containing no N. Those containing a N-N single bond should, by analogy with N2F4, give N containing free radicals, but this bond was much stronger than covalent bond energies indicated. Perfluorotetramethyl hydrazine underwent little pyrolysis at temperatures below 600 degrees, while pyrolysis of CF3CO4N2 left the N-N bond intact. Reasons for this unusual stability were discussed. ndirect fluorination of CF3CO4N2 with AgF2 gave only CF3COF. No N-F compounds were observed. Author
