An attempt was made to determine the effectiveness of the Acoustic Reflex Ear Defender System as a hearing protective device in armored vehicles, and to see whether the time delay in firing induced by this system adversely affects moving target gunnery. The Acoustic Reflex Ear Defender System was shown to provide 14 db protection reduction in temporary threshold shift to tank crew members. Its use did not affect moving target gunnery.
