Abstract:
Visual displays of aerial views of terrain possessing both high resolution and a scale of luminances ased upon a simple transf rmation of the luminances of ground objects literal displays were subjecte to ptical enhancement, and the target information extractable from them by human observers was determined. The visual displays were obtained by optical enhancement of p otographic negatives of various areas in a terrain model. Two enhancement techniques were used manipulation of photographic processing to alter luminance cont ast values and optical spatial filtering to suppress or eliminate selected izes o luminance discontinuities. Performance was measured in terms of probability of target detection under condition of veiling light. Author
